Alice will be hosting a viewing of the documentary "Marjoe" on January 12. The film is about Marjoe Gortner, a man who was once a famous charismatic child evangelist in the 1950s. He makes one last round of performances for the film crew, before leaving the business for good, and that footage makes up the bulk of the documentary, which ended up winning the Oscar for best documentary in 1973. I only first heard of the man and the film when it was mentioned by Christopher Hitchens in "God Is Not Great". It turned out to be well worth tracking down and watching. You can find more info on it at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/t...
To go along with the film and discussion, there will be a potluck dinner. Alice will provide chili. We'll need small portions of salad, deserts, plus some drinks, and whatever else you'd like to bring.
Space is limited to 14 people, so make sure to RSVP if you intend to be there.

Matt does a great job of organizing.
Very interesting film and good discussion among the attendees. Too bad more weren't present. Those who were are great fun--intelligent with good sense of humor----and humanity.
