I'm forwarding this for those of you who might be interested in this group. I don't want to put Vickie's e-mail on this site, so if you're interested, let me know and I'll let her know.

RE: A Humanist/Secular group in Wichita:

If any of you have some time, could you go to the link below and see how you feel about becoming a Chapter member of AU or aligning in some way?

I have yet to hear back from the Secular Humanist group but I'm still trying .

The plus side for being a chapter with AU is obviously the wheel does not have to be re-invented and a good system is in place.

Also, of all the groups, this is the less controversial due to the fact that it is not viewed as blatantly antireligious. However, if you read the bylaws and fundraising etc., there are some restrictions on the group locally.

I have contacted Heartland Humanists to find out if they are a Chapter group or just aligned with AU. At any rate, the information gives everyone a clear idea what AU is up to and how they operate.

Let me know. I'm still thinking of a June meeting to kick things off.

I've been throwing around some names such as The Madison Society of Humanists (Because James Madison was adamant about the separation of church and state) and I think it gives the group a bit of class. I'd rather keep the "Wichita" name off because it isn't about the city, but about what we stand for and I hope to attract people from surrounding areas.

That's it for now. Please email with your comments, suggestions etc.,
Vickie

Hi Vickie,

My name is David Morris and I’m the National Chapters Coordinator for Americans United. Kat forward your message about working with AU. She mentioned that you might be interested in starting an AU chapter or becoming an Aligned group. I’d like to find out more about what you’re trying to do and see if we can help in your effort.

We have a chapter in the Wichita area that is currently inactive. I’m sure they would welcome new leaders to help reactivate the group if that’s something you all are interested in. If you’re interested in aligning your group with AU you should see http://www.au.org/sit... on our site and contact our Grassroots Organizer about doing that.

Whatever your interest is, let me know and I’ll see how we can help.

Best regards,

David

Send an Email Post a Greeting
Hi Diane - You might want to send this request out to the meetup group via the mailing list. To do that, just send your message to atheists-150@meetup.com, and it'll be forwarded to the whole group.

Make sure to be clear that it's a separate group focused on CSS issues that is trying to get going, and they are particularly looking for a treasurer.

- Matt
